SPRINGPORT, MI – Springport police arrested a woman Friday afternoon after she allegedly drove on Springport Public Schools’ athletic fields in the direction of students.
Police responded to Springport Public Schools around 2 p.m. March 5 for an attempted larceny of a backpack and malicious destruction of property, police said. Students told officers that a woman had driven her vehicle on school ballfields, tearing up the grass and attempted to steal a backpack.
After locating the vehicle, police said officers found that the 58-year-old Springport Township woman had also driven on the school’s football field and track. Witnesses told police she was driving in an aggressive manner in the direction of students before using her vehicle to ram through an exterior gate to leave the area, according to police.
Officers stopped the vehicle and found the woman to be in possession of open intoxicants. She was arrested and lodged in the Jackson County Jail, where she is awaiting arraignment on charges of felonious assault with a motor vehicle, malicious destruction of school property, operating under the influence of drugs, attempted larceny and possession of open intoxicants in a motor vehicle, police said. https://www.mlive.com/news/jackson/2021/03/woman-drives-on-schools-athletic-fields-in-direction-of-students-police-say.html
