Man arrested for DWI after wrecking, catching truck on fire

A man was arrested for DWI after a Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a grass fire on June 9.

According to the Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office, the deputy responded to a grass fire on County Road 21, one mile south of Highway 152. When he arrived, the deputy observed a pickup truck that appeared to have wrecked and caught fire.

A male then walked out of a field and stated that it was his truck that was on fire. The deputy noticed a strong alcohol smell coming from the man and performed field sobriety tests.

The man was then checked by Wheeler EMS before being transported to the Wheeler County jail and booked for driving while intoxicated.
