Dianna Roybal is a judge for the Adams County Court in Colorado. She was appointed in 2003 and was most recently retained by voters in 2014, winning a four-year term that expires on January 7, 2019. Roybal was retained in 2010 with 57.85 percent of the vote.

Education

Roybal earned her B.S. from Colorado State University in 1981 and her J.D. from the University of Colorado in 1995.

Career

Prior to her judicial appointment in 2003, Roybal worked for Jefferson County and Adams County. Roybal was also a probation officer for Weld County for six years. In 1986 Roybal married. At the age of 34 she decided to go to law school and received a J.D. from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1995. Shortly thereafter, she practiced law (medical malpractice) with the firm of Pryor, Johnson, Montoya, Carney & Karr. For the next four years Roybal was a Deputy District Attorney and handled anywhere from traffic tickets to murder cases. Roybal was appointed Magistrate for Adam’s District Court 2001-2002 and handled paternity cases, civil restraining orders and juvenile delinquency. She is a member of the Colorado Hispanic Bar. She volunteers weekly teaching English as a second language to adults at the Brighton Public Library. Roybal is divorced and has a 20-year-old daughter, Samantha. Roybal enjoys racquetball, running and hanging out with her daughter.
