Saturday, May 18th, 2019Mass. General surgeon charged with driving drunk, striking pedestrians
BOSTON (AP) — Authorities have charged a prominent Massachusetts doctor with driving drunk, striking three pedestrians in a crosswalk and then leaving the scene.
Dr. Michael Watkins, a vascular surgeon at Massachusetts General Hospital, was released on $1,500 bail after pleading not guilty Tuesday to charges including assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon and operating under the influence.
Prosecutors say the 64-year-old Watkins struck the victims just before midnight Friday in Boston’s South End. One victim told police the driver stopped, honked his horn and then accelerated, hitting the pedestrians. They are all expected to survive.
Watkins’ attorney said in court that his client was not beeping at the pedestrians, but at another car blocking the crosswalk and his blood-alcohol measurement was barely above the legal limit to drive.
Friday, May 17th, 2019Niles police captain suspended
NILES – Police Capt. Rob Miketa has been suspended one week after being convicted of a charge of reckless operation in Warren Municipal Court.
Miketa, who originally faced a charge of operating a vehicle while impaired that stemmed from a Sept. 21, 2018, traffic stop, will serve the suspension May 27 to June 2, according to Niles police Chief Jay Holland.
Miketa, who has no prior disciplinary record with the department, waived his appeal rights, according to the chief, who found the captain broke departmental rules over code of conduct and obeying laws and ordinances.
He was stopped by a trooper with the Ohio State Highway Patrol just before 2:30 a.m. on North Road for speed. Miketa refused to take a breathalyzer test.
Miketa on Wednesday pleaded no contest to the lesser charge in Warren Municipal Court.
Thursday, May 16th, 2019Van crashes into school bus; no injuries reported
KENOSHA — A van's driver was cited after reportedly crashing into an occupied school bus in Kenosha County.
At 6:37 a.m. Thursday, the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department and Kansasville Fire and Rescue responded to the intersection of highways 142 and 75 for a crash involving a school bus and a van, according to a Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department news release.
The school bus was transporting two students from Westosha Central High School in Paddock Lake.
A Dousman Transport Company school bus was traveling south on Highway 75, making a left turn onto Highway 142, when a Grand Caravan traveling north on Highway 75 stopped at the stop sign for Highway 142 and continued through the intersection as the school bus was finishing its turn.
The Grand Caravan struck the school bus, damaging both vehicles. No one was injured.
The Caravan's driver was cited for operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license, failure to yield right-of-way from a stop sign and no insurance.
The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department is reminding drivers to pay attention as they drive on Kenosha County roadways. "Keeping our roadways safe for all, especially our students and school buses, is a priority for the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department," the release said.

Police said the vehicle was off the roadway and drove between two houses, hit a tree and continued through a yard, hitting a utility pole and ultimately getting wedged on a rock.“Monica had the appearance of being highly intoxicated,” police said in the complaint, according to WBAY. “Her speech was extremely slurred and a very strong odor of alcohol was coming from her as she yelled and screamed about her children.”Authorities said when they asked Mencheski to perform field sobriety tests, she responded, “I am too fat and wobbly to do this,” “I am too drunk” and “Not gonna lie. I’m drunk,” according to the complaint. WBAY reported that police said Mencheski could not list the name or ages of her children, who were not hurt in the incident.

Tuesday, May 14th, 2019FC Cincinnati suspend Fanendo Adi after being charged with impaired driving
FC Cincinnati have suspended Fanendo Adi from club activities after he was caught by police to be 'Operating a Vehicle while Impaired' [OVI].
Adi has missed his side's last two games in the American top-flight after suffering an injury in an encounter against his former team Portland Timbers at the Nippert Stadium.
In the early hours of Sunday before Cincinnati conceded a 2-0 defeat to Philadelphia Union, the 28-year-old was pulled over by police for speed violation.
According to reports, court documents show that the player is accused of traveling 102mph in a 65-mph zone in Butler County, north of Cincinnati and he was subsequently given a breathalyzer test during the traffic stop which showed his blood-alcohol level to be .124 with the legal blood-alcohol limit in Ohio set at .08.
The Nigerian forward is set to be investigated by officials at the Major League Soccer’s Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health Program before he could return to help his team who are fifth in the Eastern Conference standings.
"Early Sunday morning, Fanendo Adi was stopped for speeding and cited for Operating a Vehicle While Impaired (“OVI”) by the Ohio State Highway Patrol," read the club statement.
"FC Cincinnati takes these matters very seriously and upon learning of the incident, immediately reached out to Major League Soccer and local authorities.
"Per the MLS CBA, Fanendo will be assessed through Major League Soccer’s Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health (SABH) Program.
"He will be unavailable for all team activities until the assessment is complete and he has been cleared to return by SABH program doctors. In addition, MLS will undertake an independent review of the circumstances surrounding Fanendo’s citation, working closely with the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
"The club will have no further comment until that investigation is complete."
Adi joined FC Cincinnati as their first designated player in July 2018 and he is yet to open his goal account for the 2019 Major League Soccer season after playing three games.
Monday, May 13th, 2019Shooter McGavin actor to avoid jail time for DUI, might still make the Tour Championship
Christopher McDonald has appeared in nearly 200 films, yet he will forever be known as Shooter McGavin, his legendary character in the incredibly unrealistic golf classic, Happy Gilmore, which imagines what golf would be like if Beef won major championships. Clearly, LAPD have never seen the movie.
Back in October 2017, McGavin McDonald was arrested for drunk driving in the Lake Arrowhead area of Los Angeles, according to a report from TMZ, who obtained his all-time mugshot.
The 62-year-old actor reportedly lost control of his Porsche and crashed into a gas meter at around 9 p.m. local time. Before cops took him into custody, an eyewitness says McDonald told them he appeared in Happy Gilmore. Let's see how it played out for him:
Believe it or not, L.A.'s finest were not amused, and took McDonald to a local jail to sober up before he can be released without bail. Now, nearly 18-months later, the 64-year-old actor has managed to (mostly) avoid jail time for his accident and subsequent DUI after being sentenced to 35 hours of community service, three years of summary probation, an alcohol education program and a single day in jail on Wednesday.
Considering this isn't the first time McDonald has been arrested for drunk driving—in 2013, TMZ reported he was nabbed for driving while intoxicated—he can consider himself lucky. Here's hoping Shooter learns his lesson this time and doesn't really hurt himself (or drive his car straight into the TV tower).
