Sunday, December 10th, 2017Details emerge following Natrez Patrick, Jayson Stanley's arrests
Barrow County police officers found small amounts of marijuana throughout the floorboards under the driver and passenger seats of the Chevrolet Camaro that Georgia football players Jayson Stanley and Natrez Patrick were in following a traffic stop for speeding along Hwy 316 late Saturday.
According to a police report obtained by The Telegraph, officers approached the vehicle and could immediately smell marijuana coming from the driver's side window. Stanley, the driver, was "shaking" when approached and was later administered a field sobriety test when officers searched the vehicle and finding the Schedule I narcotic.
During the search, officers found marijuana in various forms in the car -- marijuana pieces on the floorboards, a Tropicana orange juice bottle with burnt marijuana and a bag of "shake," and packages of marijuana cigarettes.
The football players were heading West and roughly 20 miles outside of Athens when they were stopped at the Jackson Trail Rd. intersection on Hwy 316. The arrest came only a few hours after the Bulldogs defeated Auburn 28-7 in the SEC Championship.
Stanley and Patrick were pulled over after they were caught traveling 87 mph in a 65 mph speed limit zone. After observing that Stanley might be under the influence of marijuana, the officers on the scene conducted a field sobriety test. Stanley was not observed to have any of the six clues for potential horizontal gaze nystagmus and was was not seen to have any vertical nystagmus present either.
Officers did write, however, that Stanley had reddening of the conjunctiva, with his left eye not converging as directed. He was also described to have had "glassy, watery, bloodshot" eyes. Stanley was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. Stanley consented to a blood and urine test, although the police report did not list the results.
In addition to suspicion of DUI, Stanley was charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and speeding.
Patrick's only charge was possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.
For Stanley, this is his first arrest since arriving to Georgia three years ago. For Patrick, this is his third arrest and fifth marijuana-related incident.
Patrick was first arrested in 2015 after he and former teammate Chauncey Rivers were caught in possession of marijuana in a campus parking deck. Later that season, Patrick was in a vehicle Rivers was driving when he was pulled over and subsequently arrested for marijuana possession. Patrick was not charged in that incident.
Patrick was also subject to a brief on-campus investigation involving possession of marijuana in his dorm room in 2016 but was cleared.
Patrick found himself in trouble again in October when he was arrested for possession of marijuana after police observed it in his vehicle following a parking violation in Downtown Athens.
The UGA student-athlete handbook states that three drug-related offenses results in dismissal from the team. As of early Monday afternoon, head coach Kirby Smart has not announced whether Patrick is still with the team or not.
Since this is Stanley's first arrest, and since it carries a DUI charge, he is subjected to a suspension of 20 percent of Georgia's games. That would make it likely that Stanley will not be able to participate in Georgia's upcoming Rose Bowl game against Oklahoma in the College Football Playoff.
Saturday, December 10th, 2017Man wanted on warrants found hiding under insulation in attic at Round Lake Beach home
A man wanted on two warrants in Lake County was arrested Tuesday after he was found hiding under insulation in the attic of his home in Round Lake Beach, authorities said.
Dustin M. Serna, 31, was arrested in the 500 block of Pheasant Court by members of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Team and the U.S. Marshals Service’s Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
Serna was wanted on one warrant for failure to appear on prior domestic battery and driving under the influence/alcohol cases. The other warrant was for an aggravated battery charge, the sheriff’s office said.
On Tuesday, members of the sheriff’s warrant team and Round Lake Beach police detectives learned Serna was inside of his residence. Authorities and a police dog located Serna in the attic hiding under insulation.
Serna was arrested without incident and transported to Round Lake Beach Police Department and later to the Lake County Jail, where he is being held on $75,000 bail.
He was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning.

Thursday, December 7th, 2017 NJ lawmakers push bill to ban people from flying drones drunk
The New Jersey state legislature is considering making it illegal to operate a drone while under the influence, NorthJersey.com reported Monday.
Lawmakers are considering the measure as the use of drones for personal and commercial purposes grows in popularity. A bipartisan bill criminalizing certain uses of a drone passed out of an Assembly committee on Monday.
If the measure passes, operating a drone while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or using a drone to harm wildlife or endanger people or property, would be considered a disorderly persons offense, according to the news outlet.
Using a drone to interfere with first responders or endanger the security of a correctional facility would also be punishable with jail time and a fine if the bill passes.
If Gov. Chris Christie (R) signs the bill before leaving office on Jan. 16, it would be the state’s first law regulating drone use in New Jersey, NorthJersey.com reported.
Christie has previously declined to sign legislation that would have required law enforcement agencies in the state obtain a warrant before using a drone in an investigation, the news outlet reported.
