April 17th-April 23rd in the year Two Thousand and Seventeen
Sunday, April 23rd, 2017Adrien Broner arrested on warrant after being stopped in shot-up SUV
Early Thursday morning, the former four-division world champion was arrested and booked into the Kenton County Detention Center in Covington, Kentucky, just two miles from Broner’s hometown of Cincinnati, for having an open warrant from an incident in 2014 for public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
Broner was pulled over when he entered Kentucky in a rented Chevy Suburban with eight bullet holes in it. The Cincinnati Enquirer reported that police put Broner and the SUV at an incident of shots fired on a Cincinnati street. Ten 9-millimeter shells were found where the shooting took place.
Broner, who was not injured, told police that a vehicle followed him and started shooting at the vehicle after he left a Cincinnati bar.
The 27-year-old was then taken into custody for the open warrant and was released a few hours later after posting a $503 bond. He is due in court on April 27.
Broner is 33-2 with 24 wins coming by way of knockout, but he is coming off a lackluster split-decision victory over Adrian Granados in February in a fight many observers thought should have went the other way. Showtime announced earlier this week that they were looking to have Broner headline a card this summer.
For a fighter who has plenty of talent and is one of the biggest names in boxing, Broner just keeps throwing it all away by continuing to get into trouble.
Broner’s troubles started in 2007 when he was arrested for aggravated robbery and felonious assault for using a firearm in a club. He was found not guilty of the charges. Later in the same year, he was arrested again on a charge of assault but the charge ended up getting dropped.
In 2008, Broner was arrested for illegally carrying a .32-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver and intimidating a witness. The charges were again dropped as was a domestic violence charge.
Trouble kept following Broner as he was charged with robbery. Then in 2012, he was again charged with domestic violence.
It finally looked like Broner was on the straight and narrow until January 2016, when he was accused of assaulting a man and robbing him of $12,000 after he allegedly lost the money betting on a series of bowling games.
When the trial started in July, Broner showed up but inexplicably came in hungover. The judge held Broner in contempt of court and he spent one month in prison.
Broner’s nickname is “The Problem.” Hopefully, one day, Broner will realize he is the problem before it is too late and he ends up becoming just another athlete who wasted their talent.
Saturday, April 22nd, 2017Intoxalock calls for strengthening DUI enforcement efforts
"While the new law is a good first step, we urge the legislature to implement additional measures to improve traffic safety," said Kimberly Williams, CEO of Intoxalock. "We agree with the findings of The Governor's Task Force, which recommended additional, more effective methods to prevent impaired driving."
In the Iowa Statewide Impaired Driving Plan, the Governor's Task Force recommended additional monitoring of DUI offenders that use an interlock device, or in-car breathalyzer. Specifically, repeated attempts to drive while under the influence would result in an extension of the required time that a driver must continue using an interlock device. The monitoring of failed attempts to start a car and then extending interlock device installation time periods are considered best practices that are used in many states.
"Iowa is clearly moving in the right direction," said Williams. "Implementing the additional recommendations of the Governor's Task Force would place Iowa among those states with best-in-class DUI safety legislation."
"Implementing strong DUI laws is only one part of the equation to keep roads safe," Williams explained, "Our law enforcement agencies need the resources to implement those laws. Even within Iowa, the differences between DUI enforcement by county is alarming. For example, after adjusting for population, Dallas County makes 45 percent fewer OWI arrests than Polk County. As in other states, we encourage the Iowa legislature to increase the funding to implement stronger DUI enforcement efforts and thereby improve the safety of all drivers."
Currently, the recent analysis of Iowa Judicial Branch data, conducted by the Des Moines Register, shows nearly 20 percent of Iowa DUI offenders, more than 23,400, were charged more than once with intoxicated driving during a12-year period. The Register's analysis also found that Iowa's sentencing laws for drivers repeatedly caught driving under the influence are more lenient than in many other states.
Friday, April 21st, 2017N.M. State Police: Colorado man arrested in 11th DWI
A Colorado man arrested by New Mexico State Police late last week is behind bars on his 11th DWI charge, according to a news release and court records.
A state police officer pulled over Terry Huff, 56, of Greeley, Colo., on Friday night near Pecos after emergency dispatchers received reports of an erratic driver. A statement of probable cause the officer filed in the San Miguel County Magistrate Court says Huff’s 4-year-old son was with him in the black Nissan SUV.
According to a breath test, Huff had a blood-alcohol content of 0.24, three times the legal limit of 0.08, when a driver is presumed too drunk to drive.
An officer found an unopened bottle of Importers vodka in Huff’s vehicle, the court document says.
Emergency dispatchers told the state police officer that Huff had 10 prior DWI arrests, according to the court document. It’s not immediately clear where those prior arrests took place, but statewide court records don’t show any prior convictions for Huff in New Mexico.
A family friend who lives in the area took custody of Huff’s child, the officer’s statement says, adding that the child’s mother told police she was in Denver getting treatment for cancer.
Huff is charged with DWI, child abandonment and reckless driving, according to court records. He is being held in the San Miguel County jail in lieu of a $15,000 cash-only bond.

'Work Out' Alum Jackie Warner Pleads Not Guilty in Assault, DUI Case
Celebrity fitness expert Jackie Warner pleaded not guilty to DUI and assault charges on Wednesday, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said.
Warner, the former star of Bravo’s “Work Out,” has been charged with one felony count of assault upon a peace officer and one misdemeanor count each of driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage, driving with a .08 percent blood alcohol content and hit-and-run driving resulting in property damage.
The charges stem from a Feb. 24 incident during which Warner — whose real name is Jacqueline Renee Waddell — allegedly crashed into an electrical pole in West Hollywood, California, while driving under the influence. Warner then allegedly struck a patrol car after backing her vehicle toward a deputy who was attempting to detain her.

Warner faces up to six years in state prison if convicted as charged.
Warner’s attorney, Shawn Holley, told TMZ on Monday that she had evidence backing up Warner’s claim that she had taken Ambien prior to the incident.
“We have letters and reports from Jackie’s doctors which prove a long history of insomnia and which strongly support our contention that Jackie was driving unconscious after taking Ambien, which had been prescribed to her.”
Wednesday, April 19th, 2017Police find man suspected in DUI wreck drinking a beer
HELLERTOWN, Pa. - The Northampton County man accused in the drunk driving crash that sent his truck through a storefront was allegedly drinking a beer when police found him following a search.
Keith A. Zerby Jr., of Clauser Street in Hellertown, is facing DUI and related charges in connection with the wreck about 1:30 p.m. Friday in the 600 block of Main Street. District Judge Antonia Grifo arraigned the 36-year-old Friday evening, setting bail at $30,000.
Authorities said Zerby crashed his flatbed truck into three vehicles before plowing through the front of the VapeMeister store at 650 Main St. A borough police officer said Zerby appeared confused and disoriented after the wreck and summoned paramedics to treat minor cuts to his face, according to court records.
Police also planned on having him evaluated for a suspected DUI.
An officer told Zerby that he needed to speak with him before he was taken to the hospital. While the officer gathered information about the other vehicles damaged in the crash and assisted with a fuel leak from the truck, Zerby allegedly hopped out of the ambulance and ran west on Main Street, according to records.
Police searched for Zerby for about 45 minutes. Lower Saucon Township police found him drinking a beer in the Cinder Banks area near the Saucon Creek.
He was taken into custody, and authorities obtained a search warrant for a blood draw, which was done at St. Luke’s University Hospital in Fountain Hill.
Police charged Zerby with driving under the influence, escape, flight to avoid apprehension and careless driving. He was sent to Northampton County Prison to await a preliminary hearing scheduled for April 25 after failing to post bail.
Tuesday, April 18th, 2017Man accused of knocking down utility poles with car charged with OUI
Police responded to 1140 Main St. around 12:09 p.m. for the reported motor vehicle accident. When police arrived, they observed that two vehicles were involved in the crash.
One man was already being treated for injuries when police arrived. Witnesses told police that the man, later identified as Robert Kniskern Jr., was the driver who struck the two aluminum light poles.
The driver was near Park Ave Auto when he suddenly swerved into one of the poles, the impact of which forced his vehicle across the street into a second pole, police said. After striking the second pole, Kniskern crashed into another car, operated by a 56-year-old man.
Police said witnesses observed Kniskern slumped over the driver's wheel prior to the crash.
Before Kniskern was transported to the hospital, police spoke briefly with the driver. Based on their conversation with Kniskern, witness reports and evidence from the scene, police ascertained that he was operating under the influence of narcotics.
A background check also showed that Kniskern was wanted for two outstanding warrants. Kniskern was placed under arrest and charged with operating under the influence of drugs, operating a vehicle to endanger and operating a motor vehicle on a suspended license, his third offense.
Police received a search warrant for Kniskern's vehicle and discovered a hypodermic needle and syringe with a bottle of 50MG Natrexone Hydrochloride.
No other injuries were reported at the scene.
Kniskern is expected to be arraigned in Worcester District Courthouse Thursday.
Monday, April 17th, 2017Man pleads guilty in drunken-driving crash that killed fetus
Prosecuting and defense attorneys are recommending a three-year prison term for a man who caused a drunken-driving crash that ended a woman’s pregnancy.
Tony S. Muldrow, 39, pleaded guilty Monday to aggravated vehicular homicide, aggravated vehicular assault and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated in the Aug. 13, 2016, crash on the East Side.
The maximum combined penalty for the offenses is 10 years, but the attorneys recommended a lesser sentence as part of a plea agreement. The conviction also will bring a mandatory driver’s license suspension, which can range from three years to a lifetime.
Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Jenifer French ordered a pre-sentencing investigation and scheduled sentencing for May 25.
Muldrow was driving south on South Hamilton Road when his GMC Yukon went left of center and slammed head-on into a northbound Honda Accord that was stopped at a traffic light in the left-turn lane at Dundee Avenue, said Assistant Prosecutor William Walton.
Muldrow drove off but was apprehended when his SUV became disabled on the ramp to eastbound Interstate 70. His blood-alcohol level was measured at 0.186 percent, Walton said. It is illegal to drive at a level of 0.08 or above.
The passenger in the Honda, Ghislain Ngolo, 23, was injured, and the fetus she was carrying was killed. The driver of the car, Roseline Keni, 36, also was injured.
Muldrow will remain free on bond while awaiting sentencing.
