Police find man suspected in DUI wreck drinking a beer. He allegedly ran while receiving medical treatment HELLERTOWN, Pa. – The Northampton County man accused in the drunk driving crash that sent his truck through a storefront was allegedly drinking a beer when police found him following a search.Keith A. Zerby Jr., of Clauser Street in Hellertown, is facing DUI and related charges in connection with the wreck about 1:30 p.m. Friday in the 600 block of Main Street. District Judge Antonia Grifo arraigned the 36-year-old Friday evening, setting bail at $30,000.Authorities said Zerby crashed his flatbed truck into three vehicles before plowing through the front of the VapeMeister store at 650 Main St. A borough police officer said Zerby appeared confused and disoriented after the wreck and summoned paramedics to treat minor cuts to his face, according to court records.Police also planned on having him evaluated for a suspected DUI.An officer told Zerby that he needed to speak with him before he was taken to the hospital. While the officer gathered information about the other vehicles damaged in the crash and assisted with a fuel leak from the truck, Zerby allegedly hopped out of the ambulance and ran west on Main Street, according to records.Police searched for Zerby for about 45 minutes. Lower Saucon Township police found him drinking a beer in the Cinder Banks area near the Saucon Creek.He was taken into custody, and authorities obtained a search warrant for a blood draw, which was done at St. Luke’s University Hospital in Fountain Hill.Police charged Zerby with driving under the influence, escape, flight to avoid apprehension and careless driving. He was sent to Northampton County Prison to await a preliminary hearing scheduled for April 25 after failing to post bail.
